Inspired

 Hello Friends! Happy Wednesday!
Ever since I started taking photos with Saumya of Myriad Musings I have seen my personal style being challenged to the next level. It has challenged me with pattern mixing and with pairing bright colors together! It is true that you are the people you hang out with and by far my style has been influenced and changed for the better. This outfit is also great for work. If you work in a casual or creative office setting this outfit is perfect because it speaks to a style balance between professional and fashion forward. I love these pattern pants so much I wore them to a book club meeting last summer.

Make Way For The Positive DAY!

Hello Friends, Happy Monday!
You know the feeling when the celebration has come to an end! That feeling that says its time to get back to reality, to make new plans, to stay motivated and inspired. So when I saw this t-shirt in a souvenir shop in Kingston Jamaica I knew I had to buy and wear it today for the blog! Its a quote from Bob Marley the godfather of reggae, "Make Way for the Positive Day" is part of a song,  "You just can't live that negative way. You know what I mean. Make way for the positive day. Cause it's a new day...”- Bob Marley. This quote helps me stay motivated to be focused and productive through out my week. It has been an amazing birthday month! I have been so blessed with love, support, encouragement and inspiration. Yesterday I celebrated the final part of my milestone birthday celebrations. It was a birthday brunch. I am so ready to move forward and see what my future holds! I'm ready to start a new list of dreams and goals that i definitely want to accomplish this year and beyond.

Its the weekend! April Wrap Up

Hello friends! Happy Saturday! My birthday month was fantastic!
April is always my favorite month of the year, first because its my birthday and second because its Spring. Its the time when nature comes alive again, the rain has purpose and the flowers bloom so suddenly and rapidly.

What a month it has been from celebrating Easter at the Lincoln Memorial to seeing the Cherry Blossoms for the first time in years to a birthday vacation in Jamaica and having a great birthday week full of surprises and ending the with a fabulous birthday brunch with my closest girl friends!

Last month (Transition) I started a new blog series with having a monthly theme and since it was my birthday month I wanted the theme to be celebration. April started with a celebration with Easter and feeling very grateful for all that Christ did for the world when He died on the cross for us.

My sister and I have started a new tradition of attending the annual Easter Sunrise at the Lincoln Memorial and what I'm most grateful for is the time I have to spend with her.

This month I celebrated a milestone birthday and I loved the outfit that I wore as well. It is truly how I want my style to evolve in this new phase.

Have you heard a podcast before? If you have, I'm a little late to the game, but i wanted to share this podcast, Building your brand + balancing your 9-5 and side hustle with Abbey Brandon

Part of growing up is accepting yourself for who you are and thats where I wanted to shared my thoughts and stories about being tall on my Youtube Channel, Watch it here:

With Summer Vacation season quickly approaching I thought this article on taking a break from blogging  from The Well Blog was extremely helpful in staying consistent and maintaing balance when traveling or when life gets busy.

Cherry Blossoms Festival is every April in DC and its the first official sign that Spring has arrived and will stay awhile. The cherry blossoms are so beautiful and experiencing them in person was an experience I definitely need to make a tradition every year. I have a mini video of my time with the world famous cherry blossoms. I also love this maxi dress I got from forever 21. I love it when I find a gem in a sea of clothing. This Pink Blush outfit that is so inspired by the cherry blossoms.

April was also the start of the summer event series when there are one to many fashion and blogger events in the city where I get to catch up with friends and learn new strategies for taking my blog to the next level. I wore this Ankara skirt at the Capfabb academy and since shades of lavender is my favorite color I wore this outfit at the Spring Macy's Destination Style event where I bought my birthday outfit worn on my milestone birthday.

April has been full of Spring inspired outfits! Check it out Grateful, Ankara, Blush, Shades of Lavender, Milestone, Have a Cupcake & Wear It Too, Inspired, Make Way for the Positive Day. Saumya of Myriad Musings and I had so much fun with each outfit! We have definitely become stronger and closer friends because of our collaborations.

I also got to spend time in Jamaica for the first time  and I loved every minute of it! Read about my thoughts here this Island Ready blog post.

I really like what Meg Biram (How I achieve the Work/Life Balance ) and Victoria McGinley( 4 Ways to Achieve Work/Life Balance ) said about the work/life balance question they had on the Well Blog this week. Check out all the other bloggers who participated in the link up here: April Link Up Question

I really wanted write about the 20 things I have learned in my 20s and what I will look forward to in my 30s. I want to make a new list of things I didn't accomplish and some new goals and dreams that I know will get done. Cheers to April! You have treated me me so well. I know this time next year, it will be a new and different adventure that will be awesome.

Milestone

Hello Everyone, Happy Birthday to me!
Yes, Today is the day I celebrate a milestone birthday! I turned thirty today! Woohoo! And let me tell you that I feel great! Life is definitely greener on this side. Its truly a blessing to enter another decade of life. I have to say that there is a new focus, a new energy, a new drive that has come. There is a confidence and inner assurance that firm and direct. I have learned that time is precious and its about the quality of time and people I choose to surround myself with. I love this outfit, I saw it a couple of weeks at the Spring Macy's Destination style event. I saw it on this dark brown skin model and I knew the instant I saw it that it needed to make its why into my closet. I styled it with this thrifted blazer worn here and these heels and it made perfect style sense.

Its official, I have reached this milestone. The anticipation was exciting, scary and building all to this one moment where I was expecting to feel something great, like running across the finish line, I was expecting to feel differently but then you know what life goes on. You know when you're making plans and work hard to achieve goals and you are just living life not counting the years that pass you by by you are just living and experiencing the ups and downs of adulthood.
You try new things , make new friends, go to events, graduations, birthdays, bridal showers, weddings and baby showers. You are experiencing and living each moment exactly the way you are supposed to because that it thats what life is. It is a series of moments, experiences and memories. This is what it means to reach this stage of my life. For the past 10 years I have been living and learning, I have enjoyed.

So  reaching this new decade is a blessing, its a privilege. Thats what thirty means to me. It means I have 30 years of wonderful memories, failures, accomplishments, good times, bad times, lessons, adventures, passions, character development and many more.

One of my friends gave me this piece of advice about the thirties.
Your thirties is about being intentional, focused and the best of your life. So spend each year wisely!

Twenty things I have learned

Hello Friends! Happy Monday!
With only day left before my milestone birthday! I wanted to share 20 things I have learned in my 20s! Today I'm reflecting on the lessons I learned throughout my 2 decades of life. Its something I pass down to my younger sisters and friends and of course to the readers of this blog! I am being so thankful to have reached this new decade.

Life is too short for you to care what others think!
What I learned is that you have to BE YOU. DO YOU because that is all you can be is YOU all day everyday! The most important thing is to learn to make small changes and improvements to your character, style and career that makes up your best self!
Confidence Comes From Within!
This is something that will be a constant lesson for me. Learning that my confidence, trust, faith comes from within myself. It comes from God and my total trust I have in Him and where he is guiding me in my life! The sooner you accept who you are, the sooner you can stop focusing on how you are perceived/received and focus on what you can do to make this world a better place
Volunteering my time to others gives me great joy!
When I serve others, there I find happiness, joy and the greatest moments in my life. I have learned that when you serve/volunteer you find out who you really are and your purpose in life. Spending time with children has taught me to live in the moment, live simply and dream passionately.
Friendships/relationships are always repairable
Forgiveness is a big part of repairing any relationships. Once you forgive, its more than getting over the hurt. its actually seeing things differently and actively practicing it.
You are the oldest you have ever been!
This statement is so true! You only have one year for each age and that its the only time you get to the best you can at that moment and live each day to the fullest!

Perseverance, dedication, loyalty are the greatest assets to have
I have learned that when trials, or challenges arise, it's important to remember that success comes with hard work and pushing through the difficult moments and when you learn to preserver you appreciate what comes out on the other side. Being dedicated is so important because it also builds character and teaches you to stay committed no matter what. Loyalty is something I take extremely seriously and it's important that I find people who are similar.
Always be a Student of Life
Being open, teachable and learning from everyone whether young or older who crosses your path.

When you focus on your own life, you will have more fun

Being vulnerable, taking risks in life always builds character and grows you into a better strong person.

Drinking Water keeps your body young and healthy
One of the best things I can do is drink lots of water and it has been the key to cleanse and keep my skin young and body healthy. Limiting sodas, juices and fast foods and eating more fruits and vegetables and even cooking more at home has helped me stay in control of my cravings and what goes into my body. It's all about long term goals which I am more focused on more than ever.

Fashion trends may come and go, however if you really like a trend that makes you feel confident and fits your personality I say buy it!
It's always important to stay true to what you like and what makes you feel like you can conquer the world. Trends may fade, but style remains! It's important that you know your style before shopping trends because then you know exactly what works in your closet and lifestyle.
Always go with your gut feeling/instinct it is 99% of the time it is right!
I have learned that your gut feeling is usually right. It's about knowing your boundaries and what you let into your life. It's all about staying true to you.

If you are going to start something you have to commit to it 110%
Making a commitment to seeing a project, or job all the way through is extremely important. It pushes you to work through the ups and downs and to give your absolute best! It's what adulthood is all about.
Its never too late to start something new
I have learned that life goes on regardless of what you accomplish and what you don't. Whether you fail or succeed. Life is a continuous phase and it's new too late to change your goals or to start something brand new. Life is about adapting and adjusting to what life brings before you.
You don't have to have it all together all the time
Its always okay to ask for help on something and it's okay to be vulnerable and open up to when you don't know what you're doing. I especially like the book daring greatly by Brene Brown it's all about how our vulnerabilities can be our greatest asset. I truly believe when we open and trust our closest friends and family we can help each other through whatever comes the way.

Each Life stage comes with its own sets of challenges
Once you reach one stage there is always more challenges ahead. It's what life is all about. The true test is what you learned in the previous stage will help you in future challenges. So always learn from mistakes and experiences the first time.
Stepping outside your comfort zone
This pushes you to do better and be better and shows what you still need to work on. Comfort zones are meant to push us toward out our wildest dreams and we can't do that inside the box.
You are stronger than you think
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. That's all you need to know.

Awareness is the greatest gift
Being aware of your failures, experiences and having the opportunity to improve upon them is a gift.
Routine, schedules, time management are your best friends
Organization and time management help you reach the goals you have written down. Knowing the importance of a schedule and routine will help you live a complete and balanced life!
